Specialised Equipment for Field Measurements

The Institute is equipped with a large number of equipment and apparatuses to conduct a wide spectrum of field measurements. As part of the Institute’s development policy, equipment is being constantly increased and updated, and is deployed in experimental fields, soil EC-salinity measurements, groundwater and geothermal fluid measurements, climate parameters monitoring, discharge measurements at rivers, canals and creeks, in situ determinations and/or logging of water quality parameters, hydrochemical analyses in the field, etc.

  • Soil moisture measurement, spot or profile measurement, instant or continuous (logging)

  • Non-invasive, large scale, soil electrical conductivity survey

  • Leaf area index (LAI) measurement

  • Plant juice flow measurement

  • Equipment for extracting disturbed and undisturbed soil samples

  • In-situ hydraulic conductivity measurements

  • Infiltration measurements

  • Conventional (tape, wire) water level measurement equipment (for wells)

  • Presure transducers for water level logging

  • Water sampler for deep wells

  • In-situ water filtering device

  • Multiparametric probes for (surface and ground) water quality parameters measurements, with option for permanent installation and logging

  • Portable devices for measurement of physical water parameters

  • Automatic (programmable) water sampler

  • Portable spectrophotometer for in-situ chemical determinations

  • Various types and sizes of water flow meters (current meters).

  • Meterological stations

  • Global Posiotioning System (GPS) devices

Permanent installations - Heavy mechanical equipment - Technical facilities

  • Lysimeters. Various types of lysimeters are installed in the farm of the LRI (draining lysimeters, lysimeters with controllable water level, hydraulic-weighing lysimeter)

  • Agricultural machinery. The institute possesses a tractor with various apurtenances and one self-propelled irrigating system

  • Workshop. In the workshop the technical staff constract prototype equipment and devices, and repair the mechanical equipment of the Institute.
